One Can Never Fully Predict an Ending
Centuries ago a man's reputation, similar to now, had to be kept high. Their "ego" should always be respectful and high. When Hester Prynne was found unfaithful to her husband, Roger Chillingworth, it is nothing but obvious that Mr. Chillingworth would grow angry. The thought of a woman cheating on the man is unacceptable. Chillingworth decided to get revenge on the man who became the reason for him to lose his wife and, in a way, his ego. I also feel sympathetic for Dimmesdale, but he, knowing Hester was a married woman, should not have had an affair with her. Roger sent his wife to America in order to make money to support his wife and provide a decent life for her. Her mistakes ruined all of his plans and twisted his whole life around. I was supporting Dimmesdale throughout the whole story until I read the part of Chillingworth leaving inheritance for Pearl. This made me realize that this poor man did not have a child and his wife's child should have been his, so, in a way, pretending that this child should have been his, and knowing the child's innocence, he left inheritance for her. He probably thought of how Pearl's mother's and father's sin had hurt her, and how his revenge had caused harm to her, too and she lost a parent because of him. In my opinion, his guilt and somewhat heart had led him to leave some inheritance for Pearl, as a form of an apology and a way to help her out.
