Advertising for fast food is so strong that the logos used for fast food restaurants are imprinted in children's brains, study shows. Show a McDonald's logo to any kid and he or she will recognize it in probably a second. Show a healthy, not so popular logo or label of food to a kid and they may never figure out what it is. This is probably what causes child obesity. The fact that children recognize fast food logos so quickly and the fact that these logos are imprinted in their brains, is devastating, because it shows how much fast food is consumed in this nation and how effective it is. One can only imagine how much a kid can pass by or eat at a fast food restaurant for the logo to be imprinted in their minds. There is probably no child who cannot recognize a McDonald's, Burger King, In N Out, Carl's Jr. etc. logo. Although this scientific fact is quite interesting, it is pretty devastating also, if one thinks about it.

  1. Obesity is major issue for the United States and a lot of children are obese because of fast food restaurants. The reason the food and logos are so popular is because kids eat at a fast food restaurants instead of a home cooked meal made by their mothers. Fast food chain advertisers think of ways they can imprint the logos and the advertising into children's brains therefore they are successful. I completely agree with you Ani that fast food chains and the brain washing of kids is the leading cause of obesity and it is the main problem in children's lives. It should be stopped.

  2. The health of the youth of our nation is quite poor. It is because of these fast food chains that child obesity has become such a large issue in society. America is the only country in the world where people die because of too much food consumption. The health of these kids will only get worse and the government will end up paying for the healthcare of those that can not afford it.

  3. Obesity is slowly rising up to the number one leading causes of death in children in the United States. Honestly, fast food chains are not doing a fantastic job at trying to lower those rates. Through constant advertising and increased funds on marketing, they have clearly STAMPED their logos into the minds of young children. They appeal to children by using childish characters and mascots, so that the children force their parents to drive them to their nearest fast food restaurant. They leave the change in eating habits up to the parents of those children, who do not do any better than the fast food chains, because they are too busy to cook healthy meals for their children and resort to the cheapest, unhealthiest option.

  4. We have no reason to not believe that the children living in the United States have stamped images of fast food and other useless logos because of how the government constantly corrupts their minds. It would not surprise me if American youth is amongst the least educated in the world. I believe that the government has a longterm plan to make the youth become closed minded individuals, so one day they would not even think about some sort of reform. However, this issue is bigger than people think. In the United States, obesity has reached a new peak, and in some states such as Mississippi, obesity has passed thirty percent amongst residents. In a country where we take pride in our sports teams, this statistic is rather surprising as one would picture America as a fit nation, that is well rounded with highly educated and athletic individuals. To take a step forward, these kids must be able to block out the logos that are constantly presented to them and almost embroidered in their brains. This way, we can look further into the future of America, and put an end to obesity, along with other problems.

  5. Studies show that America has developed into the fattest country in the world. The fast food advertisements are not helping and only making the problem worse. Fast food companies spent millions every year to make people buy their food and assist people in making the wrong food choice. All these advertisements reach their goal by making Americans stop by at these fast food restaurants at almost every street corner and making people unhealthier and unhealthier. Almost sixty percent of our nation is either overweight or obese, which is slowly becoming the number one cause of deaths in America.

  6. I think this shows a huge problem in the youth of the United States, which is obesity. Children have become brainwashed to a point that they know what a fast food sign is rather than what the name of a certain vegetable is. Facts like these prove the huge problem of America, and it should start working on helping the health of its youth.

  7. The issue of child obesity is deffinetly one to be concerned about. Children across the nation have grown up seeing fast food resterauts and their logos on every street. Today's youth has grown up using technology such as a television which is a contributing factor to the issue at hand. Fast food resterauts should concern themselves more on how to provide healthier meals rather than advertising through commercials.

  8. I believe that our corrupt government has an effective and manipulative plan to make today's youth close-minded and unintelligent. Eventually these children will never think of any useful change in their life, besides consuming fast food daily. It is extremely upsetting that young children today recognize fast food logos quickly, which means that the government is succeeding in deceiving the youth. The only solution to child obesity is to completely block out these logos from children's brains. However, this is impossible unless people realize and become enlightened about the fact that the government is controlling their brain. I think there is no need to say that more healthy commercials should be advertised. This is an important issue because people are not only manipulated, but also killed by these addicting and tasty fast food products. Once again, this is a governmental plan to dumb down society and make the entire world appeal to authority and live like robots, obeying every single instruction, whether it is morally right or wrong.

  9. Reading this blog post reminded me of the movie "Supersize Me". In that movie, they asked children to name what the picture shown to them was. One of the pictures was Ronald McDonald, and all the children knew that. One of the other pictures, however, was a picture of George Washington and none of the children knew who it was. Child obesity is indeed dangerous and can cause the death of young children. It is very disappointing to see how fast food and technology have greatly affected children.

  10. It is shocking to see how severely children have been brainwashed. This food is really all they think about. No wonder child obesity is such a major issue in America. Unfortunately, I am not sure if there is any way to reverse the damage that has been done.

  11. It is not hard to brainwash people, especially children. When children are brainwashed, they will pressure their parents into buying whatever food they desire and therefore help the fast food businesses make more money. While the advertisements are trying to raise their profit and gain money, they do not realize or care about the effect it has on children and the changes in their health and lives. Changes need to be made as quick as possible in order to decrease the rate of obesity in the United States. I believe fast food businesses should at least sell healthy food and have advertisements for those, rather than an unhealthy and greasy burger. Maybe then children would want a healthy salad instead of a thousand calorie burger. Obesity should be a part in life that no kid should have to go through because it can affect them later on in their lives, but that will not be possible if we keep opening new fast food businesses that keep selling the same and unhealthy meals.

  12. Obesity is an inevitable conundrum that will be difficult to overcome. Children do not understand the harmful effects of fast food restaurants and, frankly, they do not care. I agree, all children know what McDonald's or Burger King is, because of constant commercials, advertisements, and the massive number of locations. Therefore, people are drawn to these restaurants; they know the place and are familiar with the food choices. The children of America, generally, are unknowingly brain-washed. They eat certain types of foods, despite their knowledge of the harmful affects to the body. Ending the unhealthy fast-food companies' food production is an option that can be perceived as impossible, due to reliant customers. However, with gradual steps and huge amounts of effort, it can occur.

  13. This is a very interesting and important topic. These kids are our future, we are the future. We are also easily manipulates. Because of propaganda, kids are brainwashed to act in a certain way; and most of the time the way those kids act are not in their favor or benefit, but instead in some way beneficial to the person who is doing the brainwashing. We have to find a way to stop this type of control over us and our children.
